A New Haircut from Monday 21st

I’m getting a new haircut. On Monday 21st. The reason why I’m blogging about it is that hair is always a slightly contentious issue, especially for women.

I used to have all sorts of different hairstyles, mostly very short, and I even had it all shaved off twice in my early twenties. My main concern with hair has always been the following:

  • is it easy to cut? For much of my adult life, I’ve cut my hair myself using clippers (that’s when it was shorter, i.e. from 18 - 28 or so).
  • is it easy to maintain? I’m not someone who is particularly bothered about her looks, in terms of: I wouldn’t waste any time ‘doing up my hair’ (or putting on make-up etc.). I don’t want any haircut or ’style’ that needs loads of products or maintenance, or even a hair dryer (I’ve got one but never use it). Life’s too short, and I’m a busy woman. Making myself look nice (styling hair, putting makeup on etc.) is verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry low on my list of priorities (luckily I’m quite naturally pretty - not stunningly beautiful, but pretty to the extent that I don’t really need to be ‘done up’)

The problem with my current hair is that it’s getting too long now. The reason why I’ve been growing it for the last 4 years or so is the same reason why I used to have it very short: it’s just less hassle. ‘Long hair’ as such doesn’t need any extra attention and be styled, nor does it need regular visits to the hairdresser. It has simply been the easiest option for the last few years to just let it grow.

Lately, however, it’s been getting more irritating than usual. It’s more difficult to wash as really it’s quite long now (about halfway down my back) , and brushing it is a pain in the arse. Additionally, since I don’t want to use a hairdryer, it now takes ages to dry.

While I originally wanted to just grow it very long, I realise now that it would be too much work. Therefore, today I went to a salon and got an appointment for Monday. I want it still to stay long-ish, i.e. I don’t want short hair; however, I’m going to let them chop off a fairly decent chunk, until it’s just below shoulder length. I’d like a hairstyle similar to my female friend J.

We’ll see what happens. All I want is for my hair to become easier to manage again. See below some examples of haircuts. My idea is somewhere in the middle.

  1. If you want hassle-free hair, make sure that they don’t cut it so short that you cannot tie it up any more!

  2. And please don’t get streaks!

  3. yeah, I’m probably going to go for something like in the second picture :)

I don’t want it too short, seriously, that would defeat the purpose. As you state correctly, it needs to still be long enough to be tied back.
