Slow Websites: FUCK OFF!

I’ve been doing this consultancy project recently, and I’m doing some research into the online leisure industry. What REALLY REALLY bugs me is that some of these websites are really fucking slow. They cram loads and loads of content onto their site, but seemingly don’t have the capacity to cope with all this content or indeed with high traffic.

Result: pages load at a snail’s pace

While I would normally not give those sites a second look (and click away as quickly as poss.), I have to navigate those horrible sites and analyse them. It’s a pain in the arse.

I won’t mention any names for reasons of confidentiality, but some of them are quite big names with high traffic.

lenina’s tips:

Marketing people: Don’t try and be all things to all people.
Programmer dudes: Write slim code and advise marketing people on best practice.

Quality control: please, flag up sites that are too slow! It’s WRONG.

An excellent example of a fast content-rich site is that of the BBC.

PS: happy birthday, A. – I’ll email you later but just getting the congrats done now, lest I forget or run oot of time :P

  1. there is one local news site i use up here, and it is so slow every day, the server is slow, the code is slow, and if you go on the site between 11-3 every day the site id down.

Does not take much to make a page load faster when coding.

  2. cheers mate :)
