I’ve had a draft post stuck in my backend for about 6 months now (I always have at least 2 draft posts for some reason, though I deleted a few a little while ago).
This draft post here is Lenina’s IT Repair Shop, and I started it at a time when I constantly had to spend my week-ends fixing other people’s computers. Here is the draft:
My week-end was spent fixing computers for other people’s computers. My BF collects a lot of old, shitty computers (PCs and Macs) off Freecycle, which then clutter up the flat for months and months on end.

I guess that was meant to be Occasionally… anyway, two instances in the last couple of days happened that made me want to finish this post, and finally publish it.
First, my BF asked me at the week-end to ‘reinstall Windows XP onto a laptop that he had installed Linux onto’. Huh? Whenever there’s a problem with a computer, first try and FIX IT. REINSTALLING the OS should only be the *very last* option, as it’s a pain in the ass.
Secondly, our neighbour chav’s mum caught me on Psi just now and said their computer had yet another nasty parasite. I.e. it looks like lenina’ll have to fix it. Again.
For God’s sake people. Please try to do-it-yourself. Just be a bit more sensible with your computers and this kind of thing really can be avoided. And don’t go offering to fix someone’s computer and then pass the ball on to lenina.

During the Christmas dinner I was asked: “So you work with computers, how do you manage not to be fixing family’s and everybody’s computers all the time?”
“I can’t, I use different operating system.”

or you could just bring it to Techno Paul and he will fix it for you, for a small charge of course
