Today for the first.time.ever I actually sat down and talked to some random fundraiser who approached me on the street (in the City, near Liverpool Street) to make me sign up to Amnesty International. I had a good long talk with him about various issues, and I told him that I’m normally only interested in donating to animal charities (in particular, those involving cats e.g. Cats Protection), and that I leave people and especially children, for the rest of the world to be charitable towards.
The reason why this guy convinced me was that:
(a) he was really well informed and enthusiastic about AI, and didn’t just give me some standard bullshit
(b) he was knowledgeable and I had a conversation with him about various issues, including Islam, Pakistan, and the rights of women there (which AI also support)
(c) I actually know another guy who works for AI, really nice blooke, and so I have positive associations with AI
(d) AI, like Greenpeace etc., are a trustworthy brand so I know my money’s going to definitely help others
Here’s the Stop Violence Against Women – section on the AI website, though the campaign also has its own website.
