Avoiding the Man with the Dog

Since I now always go to work at roughly the same time, and our estate has quite a good community (i.e. you talk to your neighbours when you see them), I’ve noticed little things that happen every day.

The girl downstairs (who’s probably about 13 by now) is picked up by two other girls at roughly 8.35AM, and then they walk to school together.

Next door leave at roughly 8.45AM, though I’m not sure if it’s for work, or dropping the kids off at school.

The man with the dog walks his dogs every morning. I hadn’t noticed it until this week, when I started leaving for work a bit later than usual. At roughly 8.45AM I see him walking back towards our car park, luckily each time too far from my car to strike up a conversation.

I never noticed the last two until this week. I normally leave for work at 8.35, so I just see the girls going to school, wave at them, and swiftly drive off. Since I started going a bit later, I nearly bump into the man with the dog each morning! I.e. I leave my flat, go to my car, see him with his dogs roughly 100 metres away, quickly jump into my car and drive off, waving at him.

I don’t want to talk to the man with the dog first thing in the morning. He’s a nosey old man, and a bit filthy sometimes (he’s come out with inappropriate, sexual references before). He asks all sorts of questions, which I always reply to without saying anything. I’m friendly with him, and give him a very generic lenina. Most of the time, though, I try to avoid him.

Thus, I’m going to go back to leaving for work a wee bit early. I don’t want to risk bumping into the man with the dog first thing in the morning.
