I spend a fair bit of time AFK at the moment, and I have to say I’m enjoying it. For some reason the move back up here also has resulted in my watching less TV, and generally being more anti-noise (there was too much noise in my life).
I feel more relaxed - most days are pleasant and non-stressful. What also undoubtedly contributes to a more serene state of mind is the fact that I don’t have msn/Skype on my work computer, and so at wrk I only wrk, without having to deal with skypes or msns popping up all over the place.
On the other hand, I’ve really upped the ante techie-wise with my N95. Tonight I managed to connect it (finally) to my BT Home hub, which means I now surf the internet for free from my mobile
- it’s great fun. I’ve downloaded some sweet mobile apps (Gmail mobile, fring, *enter any other useful Google mobile apps*) and want to learn more about the whole new world of Symbian! I want to be able to write my blog from it, so I’ve been looking for a WordPress mobile app. This phone has helped overcome my mobile-phobia (I’ve always hated mobiles and have never got to grips with the all-dancing, all-singing modern mobile phone. It’s a phone FFS!).
I can see my computer’s grip over me loosen a little. I have a feeling it will turn more and more into a tool over the next few months, from being a rather integral and social part of myself. I can even imagine not having it on some evenings, and instead just use my phone to write my blog and check my gmails, from my bed where I’ll be reading! Hopefully in the next few days I’ll be able to write that first blog post from my mobile ![]()

It’s always good to take a step back from the computer. I do it as well. Spending too much time in front of it isn’t good.
