I’m not going to go for my boss’ job

I’ve decided not to. I just don’t want the responsibility and the stress of it. Not now. Firstly, I’ve got a couple of other projects lined up. If I focus all my energy on getting my boss’ job, I can’t focus fully on the other projects, one of which is in fact starting this week! Even though I’m going to Italy on Friday… so I’ll have to telework (but I’m used to it so…).

The other thing is, I’ve got a lot of plans for this year (selling/buying property, travelling, learning more about Scotland, etc.) that I feel that a job with more responsibiliy and a team to manage just wouldn’t fit in right now. It’s as if I want to be freeer and less tied down. Plus, if my friend J. does have a baby (she hasn’t been to the doctor yet to confirm it, so far it’s just a bit of wee on a piece of paper, says her husband :P ), I’ve already offered to watch the baby at week-ends etc. Either way, it will be nice to have some free time and free conscience available, just in case :P  - taking any ’step’ up the career ladder just doesn’t feel like the best move.

Maybe I wouldn’t have gotten it anyway. The good thing is that my colleague now has a very good chance, and I know he’ll go for it and I hope he’ll get it. He is very good, and maybe I can help him with the application/presentation or mock-interview him.

So, it’s all good. I’ve got plenty to do as it is - though I’m off on holiday from Thursday! :D

  1. Sounds good. it’s excellent by they way that you can also telework in your new job - are employers generally more generous with telework in the UK or was that something you had specifically asked for?
