iPhone or mobile with Android?

Apple iPhone 3

Google’s Android software for mobile phones has been revealed. This comes at the right time as I’m currently considering buying the new iPhone, for various reasons. Regarding the iPhone, naturally this has been out for ages now (over a year?), but I’ve never been tempted, *despite* being a lady with a soft spot for gadgets.

I never get ‘the latest’ gadgets when they first come out, just like I never download ‘the latest’ Firefox or whatever the second it’s released (still haven’t tried out Chrome for that matter). It’s as if I need to get used to the idea first, or maybe I want to wait till the hype has dropped off a bit so that there’s a more realistic view of said gadget (the new iPhone for instance – apparently Apple had to recall faulty chargers tut tut).

Any decisions about phones will be postponed till after my holiday. I’m going next week Wednesday btw, though the journey starts on Tuesday night (overnight sleeper train EDI-LDN). When I get back, I’ll have made up my mind. It depends on some factors that I’m not going to talk about here :P

So this blog post was all about the iPhone and not about Android at all – but that’s because realistically, the iPhone (the 16GB one) is the one I’ll go for – as it can simultaneously replace my old iPod mini :)

I hope that Android will spawn a whole new universe of mobile devices and applications. Although I think that apple design and quality is adorable – I refuse to put myself into to hands of a single hard- and software provider.
Technological advances are made through creative self-organization and as much as we hate buggy versions – they are inevitable part of it.

I would go for the t-mobile device.

Well I’m done being pumped up by Google about this phone and it’s not even out yet…..Why you ask???

Well in the fine print on its G1 site: “If your total data usage in any billing cycle is more than 1GB, your data throughput for the remainder of that cycle may be reduced to 50 kbps or less.” BUT IT GET WORSE!! They can even stop your plan for good..just because I got a cool new phone and want to be a power user!!

Let me break it down: 50 kilobits per second is roughly 6 kilobytes per second — about the speed of the dialup modem

One gigabyte is about how much it takes to download the equivalent of a few albums, a decent quality movie, and a decent quality TV episode — not much. Add to that whatever email, Web browsing, file downloading, app downloading, and whatever else you’ll be doing, and it wouldn’t be far-fetched for the power users that Google is courting to hit that 1 gigabyte cap — 34 MB a day — on a regular basis.

In closing I just want to remind you AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint — offer a more liberal cap: 5 gigabytes

I LOVE YOU GOOGLE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!…before it’s to late
