Time flies. It’s nearly been a month since I started my new job. Unbelievable! It still feels very relaxed, but it’s not just the job that’s a bit more gentle - it’s living here in general.
The other exciting thing is that I’m learning an awful lot, but it’s mostly practical stuff, rather than making it [...]

One year ago today, my PhD Viva (oral exam) took place. I’m trying to recall how the day went, but can’t really remember much at all. All I remember is counting down to it via my blog, and being in a strange mental place (somewhat detached, excited, fully pressurised, elated, a vacuum), and going to [...]

Just had a quick chat with my ex-BF (from years and years ago - we were together when I was 19 and he was 15 lmfao, so basically nearly 15 years ago) who I’ve been helping with his PhD-studentship application.
I just found out that he got his studentship and is off to New Zealand - [...]

I’m currently writing a report for a consultancy project as part of my new job, and it’s really good for a variety of reasons.
Best of all, though, I seem to be able to produce a lot of high-quality writing each day. I’ve done over 6000 words so far, and that’s in 7 days. It’s ridiculous [...]

Yes, I know widgets are everywhere. In fact I’ve become a bit widget-obsessed lately, choosing my new WP theme because, amongst other things, I now have 3 columns for widgets instead of one . I do already use some customised WP widgets alongside the ready-made ones they offer.
Of course, another example of the [...]

I’ve just (finally!!) updated my website.
Yes, I do have a website (enter my real name into Google and you’ll find it).
In particular, I’ve actually uploaded my thesis to my site - so if you want to have a look at it, feel free!
It was great fun. I enjoy doing stuff on the computer for myself [...]

Today for the last time, I’m blogging from the office at my Uni. I came here earlier after picking up my hardbound thesis from the bookbinder’s (yum, it looked very phat and stylish). I handed in my thesis to registry, so they can pass it on to our library, then signed some kind of release [...]

I’ve been a bit confused as to the exact date from when I’ll have to start paying council tax . My graduation was on Friday, but my student card doesn’t expire until 8th of September, which I suppose is when the new term starts.
So, I can either:
go and tell the council that I graduated [...]

That’s it now. The PhD-topic of my blog has come to its natural end. I could still do some kind of reflection on the overall ‘journey’ etc. blah blah, but I think I’ll leave it for just now.
I’ve been there, done that, and wouldn’t do it again!
I’ll have to finalise a few things next week, [...]

I graduated today. It was great fun! I got my robe and had to walk up to the stage where I received my certificate. We then went for a pub meal at Biddy Mulligan’s, then back to mine to watch telly and get w4st3d.
I’m not going to post a pic but can email if you [...]
